Can I be made redundant while on furlough?

11 August 2020

Harriet Gardner

A redundancy situation can arise in a variety of different circumstances but it is often due to a downturn in business or through the closure or relocation of the company. Thousands of employers are seeking redundancy advice as the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is coming to an end.

If you are being made redundant, you might be eligible for redundancy pay, notice pay or the right to try suitable alternative employment. Unfortunately, employees on furlough can be made redundant but being on furlough will not affect your redundancy pay rights.

Whatever the reason, our experienced team of employment lawyers understand how stressful it can be to be involved in a redundancy situation, particularly through the pandemic, and are here to help.
